Episode 4 Change Management When Approvals Become Drama Queens

Episode 4: Corporate Freshers Survival Guide – “Change Management: When Approvals Become Drama Queens”

🎭 Genre: Office Thriller (starring Deadlines, Approvals & Nervous Freshers)
📖 Reading Time: 4–5 minutes
🔧 Theme: Introduction to Change Management in ITIL with drama and flair

🎥 Scene 1: “Deploy or Die Trying”

Location: Skyline Technologies, Seattle Office
Character: Liam, Day 9 in the job

Liam opens his inbox. A message from the DevOps team:

✉️ Subject: “Need to deploy patch on Production by today. Please get approvals.”

He mutters:

“Oh, sure. Let me just go ask the mythical gods of Change Control.”

He forwards it to his Change Manager Samantha, who replies within 3 seconds:

“Please fill out RFC Form-17b, attach rollback plan, user testing logs, CAB sign-offs, and impact matrix. No form, no deploy.”

🤯 Liam: “Wait, am I deploying a patch or launching a spaceship?”

🎥 Scene 2: “CAB Meeting = Corporate Avengers Briefing”

Liam joins the CAB call — Change Advisory Board, a council of serious faces on Zoom:

  • Samantha (Change Manager)
  • Raymond (Security)
  • Zoe (Infrastructure)
  • Some guy with a cat on his lap (nobody knows what he does)

👨‍💼 Zoe: “Is there a rollback plan if it fails?” 👩‍💼 Samantha: “Has this been tested in UAT?” 😾 Cat guy: nods silently (cat meows dramatically)

After 15 minutes of review:

“Approved. But only during non-peak hours. And notify all users. Twice.”

Liam sighs. So much for a “quick patch.”

🎥 Scene 3: “Why So Many Approvals?!”

🤔 Liam (to himself): “Why so many checks?”

Flashback style montage:

  • System crash from unapproved deployment ❌
  • Security breach from skipped testing ⚠️
  • Angry email from CEO titled: “WHO DID THIS?”

Voiceover:

“Because one mistake can break everything. That’s why we have Change Management.”

🔍 Freshers’ Knowledge Boost:

  • Standard Change: Pre-approved and low risk (e.g., password reset script)
  • Normal Change: Needs review and approval (e.g., deploying code)
  • Emergency Change: Break glass! (e.g., production outage fix)

Remember:

🔒 No RFC? No Deploy.
🚫 No CAB? No Approval.
⏳ No Patience? No Production.

“And thus… young Liam survived another corporate adventure.
Stay tuned, freshers — for next week’s drama.”

“Because in the corporate jungle… even a patch… needs a passport.”
